FUNAAB VC Announces October Start for COLCOMPS Building, Reaffirms Commitment to Digital Excellence

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, on September 10, 2025, confirmed that construction of the permanent building for the newly established College of Computing Sciences (COLCOMPS) is set to begin in October 2025.

The announcement underscores the University’s commitment to making COLCOMPS a hub for innovation, research, and digital transformation.

During an inspection visit to the College, Prof. Kehinde urged staff to remain dedicated to the vision of producing graduates capable of positively impacting society. “The products that will come from here are people who will be well baked in all areas. It will demand a lot from us, and I plead with you to give it your best. Whatever challenges may arise, be determined to overcome them,” he stated.

Highlighting Management’s support, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that FUNAAB’s 2025 TETFund annual intervention has been dedicated to the COLCOMPS building. The award letter has been issued, and the first tranche of funds has been requested. Prof. Kehinde stated that the construction is expected to be completed and handed over within one year. The building site, located beside Mahmood Yakubu Lecturer Theatre and opposite the 250-capacity Computer Laboratory, was chosen collaboratively with College staff.

He encouraged the Dean, Heads of Departments, and Lecturers to actively engage with the contractor to ensure a befitting structure, noting that a Users’ Committee will monitor progress. The University is also pursuing additional interventions to provide a separate Computer Laboratory building for the College.

In her welcome address at the inaugural College Board meeting, the Dean of COLCOMPS, Prof. Oluwasefunmi Arogundade, expressed deep gratitude to University Management, describing the establishment of the College as a historic milestone achieved through “collective sacrifice, visionary leadership, and resilience of academic staff.”

Prof. Arogundade lauded the Vice-Chancellor’s foresight in expanding the frontiers of Computing Sciences at FUNAAB and reaffirmed that the College would serve as a beacon of innovation, research, and collaboration, shaping the digital future. “With wisdom, foresight, and shared commitment, COLCOMPS will grow into a world-class citadel of academic excellence,” she affirmed.

The inspection visit and the inaugural College Board meeting mark the beginning of a new era for COLCOMPS, setting the stage for transformative growth in computing education at FUNAAB.
