FUOYE VC Advocates Green Revolution to Address Insecurity, Unveils Achievements and Future Plans

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has called upon the Federal Government and state authorities to implement a large-scale green revolution strategy as a solution to the prevailing challenges of kidnapping and violence in the country.

Professor Fasina proposed the conversion of bushlands, commonly used as hideouts by criminals, into expansive farm plantations. He emphasized that such a proactive measure would not only curb criminal activities but also generate employment opportunities and foster economic prosperity for the nation.

Speaking during a press conference held to announce the 8th Convocation ceremony of FUOYE, Professor Fasina highlighted the university's achievements under his leadership. With a graduating class of 6,563 students, including 114 first-class graduates, the convocation ceremony promises to be a significant milestone in the institution's academic calendar.

Among the notable accomplishments outlined by Professor Fasina are the computerization of the university's bursary system, initiatives aimed at enhancing student and staff welfare, and the establishment of a Professor of Practice tradition to facilitate practical learning experiences for students. Additionally, the university has witnessed infrastructural development, including the construction of over 30 classrooms and the introduction of innovative academic programs such as part-time and sandwich programs.

Acknowledging the importance of international collaborations, Professor Fasina revealed that FUOYE is affiliated with 15 international institutions, with five scholars recognized as world-renowned experts in their respective fields. He also highlighted efforts to promote professional excellence within the academic community, citing the appointment of renowned legal practitioners, Chief Wole Olanipekun and Mr. Olaolu Yusuf Alli, to teach law students.

Looking ahead, Professor Fasina outlined his administration's plans for the future, which include the construction of a new senate building, the establishment of a renewable independent power station, and the expansion of the university's green revolution initiative. Additionally, plans are underway to introduce post-doctorate programs, foster international collaborations, and institute an annual Vice-Chancellor award to recognize outstanding students.

The convocation ceremony, set to honor distinguished individuals such as Senator Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele, Senator Adeola Solomon Yayi, and Rt. Hon. Adamu Gagdi, will also feature an exhibition showcasing the intellectual and vocational achievements of FUOYE's students and academic staff.
