The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has appointed Mr. Ahmed Ojo Lawal as the Acting Director of its Internal Audit Department, effective September 11, 2024.

The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has appointed Mr. Ahmed Ojo Lawal as the Acting Director of its Internal Audit Department, effective September 11, 2024. Lawal, a seasoned Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in audit and financial management, succeeds Mr. Peter Akindele, the outgoing Director of Audit, who has commenced his terminal leave ahead of retirement.

A native of Owo, Ondo State, Mr. Lawal brings a wealth of knowledge to the role, having built a distinguished career spanning both private and public sectors. His academic journey began at Owo High School, where he graduated with a Grade One Distinction in 1979. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos in 1995, followed by a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University) in 1999. In 2018, he achieved the title of Doctoral Fellow from the International Certified Risk Management Professionals (ICRMP), United Kingdom, solidifying his expertise in risk management.

Mr. Lawal’s professional career began in 1995 at Pelemo & Pelemo & Co (Chartered Accountants) as an Audit Trainee, where he quickly advanced to Audit Manager. His expertise in auditing and financial analysis paved the way for his entry into FUTA in 2005 as a Senior Internal Auditor. Over the years, Lawal demonstrated commitment and professionalism, rising to the position of Deputy Director in 2021.

Beyond his academic and career accomplishments, Mr. Lawal is a member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Institute of Cost Management (ICM), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCAI), and International Certified Risk Management Professionals (ICRMP), among others.

In response to his appointment, Mr. Lawal, 63, expressed gratitude to FUTA’s management, pledging his continued dedication to upholding the university's standards of fiscal control, financial integrity, and growth.

FUTA’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, congratulated Mr. Lawal on his new role, expressing confidence that under his leadership, the Directorate of Internal Audit will maintain FUTA's high standards of financial transparency and integrity.
