The Directorate of Physical Planning (DPP), Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), held its 2nd quarter staff training programme on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, aimed at strengthening service delivery, project management efficiency, and planning capacity across the directorate.
The training, themed “Improving Service Delivery in Project Management and Planning 2.0,” brought together staff for technical and professional development sessions focused on enhancing operational standards in line with the directorate’s mandate.
In his opening remarks, the Director of Physical Planning, Engineer Folorunsho Boyinbode, expressed satisfaction with staff turnout and urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve professional practice and overall departmental output.
Delivering a lecture on site safety precautions, the Deputy Director, Engr. Adebimpe Amigun, stressed that safety must be treated as a daily operational requirement rather than a periodic exercise. She emphasized the need for daily safety briefings before site activities begin and end-of-day roll calls to ensure accountability of all personnel. She also distinguished safety from security, noting that safety focuses on preventing workplace hazards while security addresses external threats.
She further highlighted the importance of hazard identification and risk assessment before any task, stressing the mandatory use of personal protective equipment across all construction sites. According to her, staff must be properly equipped with relevant safety gear including head, eye, hand, foot, and hearing protection depending on the nature of the work. She also urged regular inspection of equipment to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards.

Speaking on site supervision, Deputy Director, Engr. Razak Ejibunu, emphasized that effective supervision remains central to the directorate’s infrastructure delivery mandate. He explained that each project requires a designated officer of the works responsible for day-to-day supervision from inception to completion, serving as a link between clients, consultants, and contractors.
He stressed the importance of proper preparation before project execution, noting that all drawings, bills of quantities, and contract documents must be reviewed for consistency to avoid delays and cost overruns. He also urged studio heads to maintain active oversight of project documentation and verify site conditions against approved designs, including topographical and geotechnical data.
In his lecture on technical report writing and correspondences, Engineer Boyinbode noted that reports serve as official documentation used by external stakeholders such as ministries, consultants, and funding agencies to assess project competence and institutional credibility. He stressed that all reports must be precise, data-driven, and aligned with professional standards applicable to different project types.
Also speaking, Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs Division, Mr. Mayowa Adu, delivered a lecture on work ethics, emphasizing accountability, integrity, and diligence as essential values guiding professional conduct within the directorate. He noted that the multidisciplinary nature of the work requires teamwork among engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, and builders, with strict adherence to ethical standards.
He defined work ethics as the moral principles guiding professional behavior and cautioned against falsification of records or negligence, warning that ethical lapses could result in serious consequences, including structural failures. He urged staff to remain committed to responsible practice and uphold professionalism in the execution of university projects.
