The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) strengthened its teaching and learning infrastructure on Friday, February 27, 2026, with the handover of newly constructed laboratories for the School of Basic Medical Sciences, part of the College of Health Sciences.

The project involved the transformation of the university’s old health center into state-of-the-art laboratories for the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) and the Department of Public Health, executed by WEKAN Construction Company under the direction of the University Management and the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji.
At the handover ceremony, Professor Oladiji emphasized that the new laboratories address critical infrastructure needs of the school and will facilitate accreditation of courses, as adequate facilities are now available. “The project was born out of the desire to provide a conducive teaching and learning environment for our students. We will continue to meet the needs of the College of Health Sciences in terms of physical infrastructure because infrastructure is key to accreditation,” she stated.

She also acknowledged the support of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), which sponsored the laboratory project.
The laboratories were formally handed over to the School of Basic Medical Sciences in the presence of Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Biodun Olagbuji, who commended the Vice-Chancellor and University Management for the investment. He noted that the additional facilities and equipment would significantly support course accreditation and enhance the quality of education within the College.

The completion of these laboratories marks another milestone in FUTA’s ongoing commitment to providing world-class facilities for teaching, learning, and research across its health sciences programs.
