The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has enhanced its infrastructure with the completion of new guest chalets at the International Scholars Lodge Complex.

The handover ceremony, marking the formal transfer of the facility from the contractor to the university, was held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

In her address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji emphasized her vision for FUTA as a university with world-class facilities across all areas. She noted that the new lodges would provide comfortable and affordable accommodations for both local and international guests, visiting researchers, and academics. Professor Oladiji highlighted that these lodges represent the first purpose-built guest accommodations in FUTA’s history, replacing older quarters that were retrofitted for guests. She stressed that the university had reached a stage where quality infrastructure is a priority.

Professor Oladiji also thanked the lead contractor, Prince Sunday Oderinde, his team, and the project consultants for their dedication and attention to detail in delivering the chalets. She called on Professor Helen Ogunsuyi, Director of FUTA Business Development Company (International Scholars Lodge), to ensure proper management and maintenance of the facility.

Engr. Oladeji Boyinbode, Director of the Directorate of Physical Planning, described the completion of the chalets as a milestone achievement, acknowledging the Vice-Chancellor and the Directorate’s team for their pivotal roles in bringing the project to fruition. He noted that the upgraded complex would significantly enhance the comfort and experience of visiting academics, dignitaries, and other guests.

The Registrar, Mr. Charles Adeleye, described the handover as historic, recognizing the Vice-Chancellor’s leadership in completing the facility. He highlighted her numerous accomplishments, including her appointment to the Tertiary Institutions TETFund Project committee, and expressed satisfaction that FUTA now has a dedicated venue to host guests locally and internationally.

The new chalets at the International Scholars Lodge mark a significant step in FUTA’s ongoing efforts to upgrade campus facilities, support academic collaboration, and strengthen its reputation as a research-intensive institution.
