FUTA Vice Chancellor Urges Student Leaders to Prioritize Sacrifice and Collective Interest
The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, has emphasized the importance of leadership and sacrifice among student leaders during a leadership retreat for the Students’ Union Government of the institution.
Professor Oladiji underscored the need for leaders to be prepared to make critical decisions that serve the collective interests of the people. Speaking at the retreat, she emphasized that effective leadership entails not only guiding and mentoring others but also inspiring collective action through intelligent decision-making.
According to the Vice Chancellor, leadership transcends merely leading; it involves guiding and mentoring individuals towards a common goal. She emphasized that student union leaders at the university must serve as rallying points for their peers in advocating for a conducive learning environment.
The guest speaker at the retreat encouraged student leaders to embrace Alternative Dispute Resolution methods instead of resorting to unnecessary protests. This approach, he argued, would contribute to fostering a peaceful atmosphere on campus, especially during times of economic hardship in the country.
