FUTA's WASCAL Doctoral Programme Achieves Prestigious International Accreditation
The programme benefits from the esteemed Meteorological Department at FUTA and is led by Professor Debo Adeyewa, a renowned meteorologist and former Vice Chancellor of Redeemer’s University.
The Doctoral Programme in West African Climate Systems (DRP-WACS) at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has received full international accreditation from the High Council for the Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) in France. This programme operates under the West African Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL).
The accreditation was announced by Professor Emmanuel Wendsongre Ramde, Executive Director of WASCAL, a German government initiative in collaboration with West African countries. In a message to FUTA's Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, Professor Ramde highlighted the programme's quality and the strong collaboration between WASCAL and FUTA. He stated, "This significant achievement is a testament to the hard work, steady commitment, and exemplary collaboration between our two institutions."

HCERES's accreditation was based on a thorough and objective assessment, recognizing the programme's excellence in education and research, strong national and international reputation, quality of training, and effective management. The programme benefits from the esteemed Meteorological Department at FUTA and is led by Professor Debo Adeyewa, a renowned meteorologist and former Vice Chancellor of Redeemer’s University.
Vice Chancellor Professor Oladiji expressed her satisfaction with the accreditation, thanking HCERES for their thorough evaluation and WASCAL for their ongoing partnership. She stated, "I can boldly say that this programme will deliver its mandate because FUTA has a very rich faculty which has trained and churned out great scholars in climate management under the umbrella of WASCAL. With Professor Adeyewa as the Director of the doctoral programme, it is in very competent hands."
