FUTMinna VC Urges Academics to Synergize for National Development

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, has emphasized the need for synergy among academics to provide sustainable solutions to societal challenges.

Prof. Kuta made this call while declaring open the Annual General Meeting/Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Minna Chapter.

The conference, themed "Mechanical Engineering for a Sustainable Future," highlighted the critical role mechanical engineers play in addressing sustainable development challenges. The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence in the ability of mechanical engineers to drive innovation and provide solutions to pressing issues.

Dr. Esther Anosike Francis, a lecturer from Nile University of Nigeria, delivered a keynote address on "Eco-Friendly Mechanical Engineering Solution for a Sustainable Future," emphasizing the transformative role of mechanical engineering in providing eco-friendly designs.

Prof. Adedipe Oyewole from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, FUT Minna, presented a lead paper on "Integration of Sustainable Technologies with Mechanical Engineering," calling on mechanical engineers to apply technical expertise in everyday design.

The event featured the presentation of awards to individuals and organizations in recognition of their outstanding contributions to mechanical engineering. The awardees included government officials, academics, and industrialists who have made significant impacts in their respective fields.

The conference also marked the election of new officials to pilot NIMechE affairs, with Engr. Dr. Muhammadu Masin as Chairman and other members of the executive committee. The new leadership is expected to drive the institute's mission to promote mechanical engineering and sustainable development.
