Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI), Enugu, celebrated its 17th Foundation Day with a vibrant and heartfelt ceremony that brought together students, staff, alumni, and friends of the institution at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena.

The event was a remarkable blend of praise, reflection, and celebration, honouring the vision and legacy of the university’s founders.
The celebration featured soul-lifting worship sessions, inspiring speeches, cultural and musical performances, award presentations, and the symbolic cutting of the Foundation Day cake — all reflecting the university’s culture of excellence and gratitude.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, described the university’s 17-year journey as “miraculous,” emphasizing that God’s purpose has guided every step since its inception. He recounted the institution’s humble beginnings and commended the collective faith, resilience, and commitment that have shaped its remarkable growth.

The Foundation Day lecture, delivered by Hon. (Dr.) Obi Ozor, Commissioner for Transport, Enugu State, celebrated GOUNI as a “formation house” that nurtures not just intellect but also character. He encouraged students to approach life with courage and initiative, reminding them that “there is no perfect condition to start something.”
A major highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of outstanding students who excelled academically, including those who achieved a perfect CGPA of 5.00 — Ekwe Princess Chinyere, Ogadimma Samuel Ogochukwu, Ogbu Esther Kenechukwu, Okpala Amalachi Pascaline, and Ozoude Reuben Chukwuebuka. Notably, Ekwe Princess Chinyere was honoured as the Vice Chancellor for One Day.
Awards were also presented to students who distinguished themselves in regional and national competitions, including Egbogu Favour Ogechukwu, Aguigwo Gerald Somtochukwu, and Adibo Tiffany, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the university’s image.

As the ceremony drew to a close, the atmosphere was filled with gratitude, joy, and renewed dedication to the university’s founding ideals — faith, excellence, innovation, and service to humanity.
Seventeen years of grace, growth, and greatness — and the journey continues.
