The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University Chapter, has called off its six-week strike, which began on September 11, 2024. The suspension followed a crucial meeting held on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

The decision to suspend the industrial action came after extensive negotiations with the Gombe State Government. In a statement released on Thursday, the union announced that it had reached an agreement with the state government, paving the way for the resumption of academic activities.

The notice of suspension, co-signed by ASUU Gombe State Chapter Chairperson Suleiman Jauro and Secretary Mustapha Muhammad, highlighted that the decision was based on updates from the State Government Negotiation Committee and the union’s branch representatives.

The lecturers had embarked on the strike to press for various demands, including an enhanced welfare package. Following the agreement, the union expressed optimism that the state government would fulfill its promises.
