In a pivotal moment for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nasarawa State, Governor Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule emphasized the critical importance of sustaining the NYSC Scheme to reinforce national unity and development. The Governor’s remarks came during a courtesy visit by Mrs. Grace Ogbuogebe, Director of the NYSC North Central Area Office II, on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Governor Sule, addressing Mrs. Ogbuogebe and other attendees in his office, underscored the NYSC Scheme's historical and ongoing contributions to national cohesion. He expressed his unwavering belief in the Scheme and pledged continued support to ensure its success and sustainability. He also highlighted the recent approval for the establishment of the NYSC North Central Area Office II in Nasarawa State, describing it as both an honor and a significant achievement for the State.

The Governor acknowledged the accomplishments of the outgoing State Coordinator, Abdullahi Ahmad Jikamshi, who has been transferred out of the State. Sule praised Jikamshi for his effective leadership, collaboration with security agencies, and his role in maintaining peace during his tenure. He also mentioned the planned construction of a 3,000-capacity multi-purpose hall at the NYSC Orientation Camp, a development aimed at enhancing facilities and supporting the Scheme’s operations.

Mrs. Grace Ogbuogebe, in her remarks, expressed gratitude for Governor Sule’s support and the return of his Excellency for a second term. She commended the Governor for his intervention and assistance, which have been crucial for the Scheme. Ogbuogebe detailed the recent expansion of the NYSC Scheme, including the establishment of six additional area offices to accommodate the growing corps population and improve administrative efficiency.

The new NYSC North Central Area Office II, with its headquarters in Lafia, Nasarawa State, will oversee operations in Nasarawa, Plateau, and Benue States. Mrs. Ogbuogebe called for further support from the State Government in providing office accommodation and utility vehicles to facilitate the swift commencement of the new Area Office’s activities.

The event was attended by members of the Nasarawa State Executive Council, the NYSC Nasarawa State Governing Board, and other NYSC management team members. The highlight of the visit included the presentation of NYSC journals to Governor Sule and a group photograph, marking a memorable occasion in the Scheme’s ongoing efforts to enhance its reach and impact.

As Nasarawa State embarks on this new phase with the additional NYSC Area Office, the Governor’s commitment and the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders are set to drive the Scheme towards greater achievements and continued service to the nation.
