Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, is set to inaugurate an international conference on African Indigenous Languages at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The two-day event, scheduled for October 29-30, 2024, is organized by the Department of African Languages and Cultures at the university. Governor Radda will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, formally declaring the conference open on October 29.
The conference will feature a keynote address by Prof. Muhammad Tijjani Bande, former Vice-Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto. His Highness, Malam Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, the Emir of Zazzau, will serve as the royal father of the day. Prof. Ango Abdullahi, Magajin Rafin Zazzau and former Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, will chair the occasion. The event will be hosted by Prof. Kabiru Bala, the current Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University.
Prominent academics, including Prof. Ahmadu Bello Zaria from Kaduna State University, Prof. Imelda Umoh, President of the Linguistics Association of Nigeria, and Dr. BSY Al-hassan of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, will present lead papers.
Under the theme "Indigenous African Languages as Instruments for Viable Development," the conference aims to highlight the role of indigenous languages in driving Africa's scientific, technological, and industrial development. The event, to be held at the CBN Center for Economics and Finance, Ahmadu Bello University, will attract participants from around the world, fostering collaboration to promote sustainable development across the continent.
