GSU Law Student Wins 'Most Outstanding Debater' at Amnesty International National Competition
Gombe State University has recorded another remarkable achievement on the national stage as one of its students earned top honours at the Amnesty International Human Rights Debate Competition held in Abuja.
Alewa Jonathan David, a 500-level student of the Faculty of Law, was named the Most Outstanding Debater in recognition of his exceptional performance throughout the competition. His eloquence, critical thinking, and strong advocacy for human rights distinguished him among participants from universities across the country.
Although his team exited the competition at the quarter-final stage after a closely contested debate against Madonna University, Jonathan's individual brilliance earned him the competition's highest individual honour.

While receiving the award, the Vice-Chancellor of Gombe State University congratulated Jonathan on his outstanding accomplishment and encouraged him to make excellence a lifelong pursuit. He urged him to mentor, train, and inspire aspiring debaters within the University so that more students can compete and excel at both national and international levels.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the University's debate team and acknowledged the dedication of their coach, Mr. Hadu Naphtali Ligari, whose commitment and mentorship have continued to produce outstanding results. In recognition of their participation and contribution to the competition, both Gombe State University and Mr. Ligari were presented with Certificates of Recognition by Amnesty International.
This achievement reflects Gombe State University's growing reputation for academic excellence, leadership, and student development. It further underscores the University's commitment to producing graduates who can confidently represent the institution and contribute meaningfully to society on national and global platforms.
