Heirs Insurance Group, Nigeria’s fastest-growing insurance company, has announced the winners of its 2024 Essay Championship, awarding a total of N8 million in scholarships. The announcement took place at a grand ceremony held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, where the finalists, their parents, and school representatives gathered for an all-expense-paid event.

Hephzibah Chidi from Seacrest Preparatory in Rivers State emerged as the first-place winner, securing a N5 million scholarship for her essay titled “The Story of My Hero.” In addition to her scholarship, Seacrest Preparatory received a N1 million grant for an educational project.

The second-place winner, Pemisire Owolabi from Quest College, Oyo State, was awarded a N2 million scholarship, while Mariam Raheem from Isador Model School, Lagos State, took third place with a N1 million scholarship.

The event was attended by notable figures including Charles Odii, Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN); Niyi Onifade, MD/CEO of Heirs Life Assurance and Sector Head of Heirs Insurance Group; Tony Aniemeke, MD/CEO of Heirs Insurance Brokers; and Ifesinachi Okpagu, Chief Marketing Officer of Heirs Insurance Group.

This year’s competition attracted nearly 5,000 participants from Junior Secondary Schools across Nigeria, showcasing exceptional creativity and innovation. Heirs Insurance Group’s commitment to education and financial literacy was evident throughout the event, reflecting its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.

A distinguished panel of academic professionals, led by a Professor of English, evaluated each entry, with Deloitte & Touche serving as an independent Quality Assurer to ensure fairness and transparency. The top 15 essays advanced to the final round, where the top 3 finalists were selected.
