Hillside University of Science and Technology (HUST), Okemesi-Ekiti, held its second matriculation ceremony on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Odubabaakoko Hall. The event, themed “Learners to Leaders: Knowledge, Enterprise, and Growth,” marked the formal admission of 104 new students into the institution.

The highlight of the ceremony was the keynote address delivered by Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola, who underscored the critical role of education, research, and innovation in shaping future leaders. She emphasized the need for students to embrace academic excellence and personal development as they embark on their educational journey at HUST.

In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Iheanyichukwu Okoro, encouraged the new students to uphold high moral standards and academic integrity. He noted the institution’s rapid progress, citing an increase in student enrollment and significant infrastructure developments. These include a new facility for the School of Basic Medical Sciences in Ibadan and an extensive e-library aimed at enhancing research and learning.

The Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Funmi Togonu-Bickersteth, in her goodwill message, urged the matriculating students to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them. She reaffirmed the university’s vision of producing graduates who are innovative, knowledgeable, and socially responsible. Similarly, the Pro-Chancellor and Founder, Mr. Joseph ‘Laoye Jaiyeola, reiterated HUST’s commitment to fostering critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills among its students.

A key moment in the ceremony was the administration of the matriculation oath, led by the University Registrar, Dr. Mercy Agumadu. She reminded the students of the significance of the pledge in upholding the university’s values and maintaining academic discipline. Following the oath, the Vice-Chancellor officially admitted the students into the institution, urging them to embrace diligence and responsibility in their academic pursuits.

The matriculation ceremony at HUST reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to academic excellence and its mission to nurture well-rounded graduates equipped with intellectual, ethical, and entrepreneurial skills for leadership roles in society.
