Elders from Iyamho paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dawood Egbefo, today. The meeting, held in the University’s Senate Chamber, highlighted the importance of collaboration and mutual respect between the institution and the community.

The delegation, led by Mr. Abubakar Oshiomhole, congratulated Prof. Egbefo on his recent appointment as Acting Vice-Chancellor. He expressed the community’s desire to maintain and enhance the positive relationship it shares with the university. Mr. Oshiomhole also took the opportunity to request that the University consider providing special opportunities for qualified Iyamho indigenes in the areas of scholarships and employment.

Inhis response, Prof. Egbefo warmly welcomed the elders and thanked them for their support. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to working closely with the host community, emphasizing that continued collaboration would be pivotal for maintaining security and fostering a peaceful academic environment. He noted that the university values its relationship with the community and is open to initiatives that benefit both parties.

Prof. Egbefo further assured the delegation that their requests would be carefully considered, especially in the context of empowering local talents and contributing to the socioeconomic development of the community.

Also present at the meeting were other key members of the university management, including Prof. Mrs. Muniratu Maliki, Special Adviser on Administrative Matters, and Dr. Osifo Osagie, the University Bursar. Both officials praised the Iyamho community for its peaceful coexistence with the university and encouraged the representatives to continue fostering harmony and mutual respect.

The visit reinforced the university’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with its host community while contributing to its growth and development.
