IAUE Department of Foreign Languages and International Studies Set to Partner with TV5Monde

The Department of Foreign Languages and International Studies at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is set to partner with TV5Monde, a global French-language television network.

This was disclosed by the Head of Department, Dr. Juliet Elikwu, following a meeting with TV5Monde representative, Mr. Eric Koufedji, at the department’s French Room on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Dr. Elikwu explained that the partnership would provide staff and students with access to a rich repository of teaching materials, including videos, news programmes, documentaries, and a digital library where French books can be read online or downloaded for study purposes.

According to her, the collaboration will enhance the teaching and learning of French by leveraging TV5Monde’s diverse programmes to improve language skills. She added that the exposure to authentic materials will help students develop proficiency in French while also deepening their understanding of Francophone culture and promoting cross-cultural exchange.

Dr. Elikwu also hinted at plans to establish a TV5Monde hub within the university to foster academic collaboration and strengthen ties between IAUE and the global Francophone community. She expressed appreciation to Mr. Koufedji for his visit and assured that his request for partnership would be presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku.

Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Koufedji commended the department’s conducive learning environment and thanked the staff and students for their warm reception. He expressed optimism that the partnership would make learning French easier and faster for IAUE students and staff.

The event featured the presentation of souvenirs to enthusiastic students who actively participated in the programme. TV5Monde is known for its wide range of French-language content, offering in-depth coverage of news, politics, social issues, and cultural topics, with a strong focus on Africa and the Francophone world.
