ICAN Moves to Strengthen Ties with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)

The Nigerian Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is putting plans in place to strengthen ties with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The institute revealed this through its Chairman, Kaduna District Society, Mrs. Mary Amuyedo Mary Temitope, when she led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Directors of NOUN Kaduna Study Centre and Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD).

Expressing the purpose of the visit, the ICAN Chairman, who is also a Deputy Bursar at NOUN, maintained that it is a key step to reinforcing the collaboration between the university and ICAN.

She commended NOUN's commitment and contribution for effective training of accounting students at degree levels for ICAN to take it up.

Temitope, however, noted the fact that NOUN is one of the few higher institutions that are yet to secure accreditation which is denying the university's accounting students from getting the required exemption when applying for ICAN exams.

The chairman, in a matter of urgency, encouraged NOUN to get an ICAN accreditation so as not to put its students at a disadvantaged position after graduation.

She also sought collaboration with the NOUN in encouraging accounting students from 100-Level to register for the Accounting Technician Scheme (ATS), which is the faster way of becoming Chartered Accountants even before graduation from the university.

Earlier, the delegation was received by the Director, Kaduna Study Centre, represented by Mrs. Fatima Yakubu, a Principal Assistant Registrar of the centre.
