Igbinedion University, Okada, has called on its engineering alumni to take a more active role in mentoring students and strengthening industry linkages as part of efforts to enhance practical training and professional development.

The appeal was made at the inaugural “Blue Skye Alumni Legacy” Homecoming organised by the Abdulsalami Abubakar College of Engineering.
At the event, alumni were encouraged to support the institution through mentorship, internship opportunities, infrastructure support, and stronger collaboration with industry players, with the aim of bridging the gap between academic training and real world engineering practice.
Speaking at the gathering, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, stressed that the strength of any university is reflected in the impact of its graduates. He called for a more active and engaged alumni network capable of driving innovation and supporting upcoming engineers.
He noted that sustained alumni involvement would significantly contribute to improving the quality and relevance of engineering education in Nigeria.
The university disclosed that the College of Engineering has produced over 1,700 graduates since its establishment and is now prioritising alumni engagement as a strategic tool for advancing academic excellence and industry relevance.

The homecoming event highlighted the university’s renewed focus on building stronger ties between graduates, current students, and industry stakeholders.
