Igbinedion University Okada Hosts Seventh White Coat Ceremony for MBBS Class of 2024/2025

Igbinedion University Okada, Nigeria's premier private university, celebrated the Seventh White Coat Ceremony for the 400-level MBBS students of the Class of 2024/2025 on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The event, held at the University's Library Conference Hall, marked a pivotal moment in the students' medical education as they transitioned from pre-clinical to clinical studies.

The highlight of the ceremony was the ceremonial dressing of the students in their white coats by Dr. Ya'u Abubakar Gagarawa, Chief Medical Director of Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital, alongside Guest Lecturer Dr. Chinwe Muomalu and other principal officers of the University. After donning their white coats, the students took an oath, pledging to uphold integrity and professionalism throughout their medical careers.

Professor Dominic Osaghae, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, welcomed the parents and guests, explaining that the White Coat Ceremony symbolizes a key transition in the students' medical journey. 

In his address, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University Okada, expressed pride in the students’ dedication to the medical profession. He emphasized the ceremony as a rite of passage that marks the start of their clinical training and reinforces the core values of medicine.

Dr. Chinwe Muomalu, Guest Lecturer and Medical Director of Cradle and Mom Specialist Hospital in Owerri, delivered an inspiring lecture titled "Why Did I Choose to Become a Doctor?" She encouraged the students to remain devoted and resilient in their pursuit of becoming medical doctors, guiding them through the healthcare value chain and inspiring them to stay committed to their studies.

The Seventh White Coat Ceremony was not only a celebration of academic achievement but also a reaffirmation of the students’ commitment to excellence in the medical field.
