Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital Appoints New Chief Medical Director

Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH) has appointed Dr. Ya'u Abubakar Gagarawa as its new Chief Medical Director. Dr. Gagarawa, a distinguished medical professional, is set to lead the hospital in advancing its mission of delivering top-notch medical services and education.

Dr. Gagarawa brings extensive experience to his new role, having previously served as the Head of the Surgery Department at the National Hospital Abuja and as Head of the Division of Laparo-Endoscopic Surgery. His professional credentials include being a fellow and examiner of the West African College of Surgeons and a Medtronic Trainer at the Centre for Simulation, Laparoscopy, and Endoscopy in Istanbul, Turkey.

Academically, Dr. Gagarawa holds an MBBS from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, and an MSc in Surgical Skills (Laparoscopy and Endoscopy) from Queen Mary, University of London, UK. He also possesses a diploma in Minimally Invasive Surgery from the University of Pisa, Italy, and a certificate in Leadership and Management from the London School of Economics.

Dr. Gagarawa’s career is marked by numerous national and international awards, and he is a member of several professional organizations. At 52 years old and an indigene of Jigawa State, he is expected to bring a wealth of expertise and a fresh perspective to IUTH. His leadership is anticipated to elevate the hospital's standards in medical care, enhance patient experiences, and foster a collaborative environment for both staff and students.
