IGS Students Showcase Literary Excellence at 3rd Spelling Bee Event
The Spelling Bee, sponsored by Urban Books and Technology Inc. in commemoration of Mr. Olajide Ogungbadero's 72nd birthday, aims to enhance the reading culture among students. Mr. Suara highlighted the competition's role in motivating students towards higher educational opportunities and deterring them from criminal activities.
Students of Ibadan Grammar School (IGS) demonstrated their literary prowess at the school's third annual Spelling Bee competition. The event, held at the Emmanuel Alayande Hall, witnessed the convergence of IGS Old Students Association members and distinguished guests, including the National President, Mr. Gafar Ojetola, and the National Coordinator, Mr. Hakeem Suara.
Mr. Ojetola, in his address, urged fellow alumni to actively contribute to the educational journey of current students, emphasizing the association's tradition of support. He commended Mr. Jide Ogungbadero, a member of the 1965/69 set and sponsor of the initiative, for consistently backing the school and its students.

The principal of the senior school, Mr. Johnson Oladejo, expressed the positive impact of the Spelling Bee program on fostering healthy academic rivalry among students over the past three years. Additionally, Mr. Ogungbadero's efforts in sponsoring students for examinations and providing bursary awards were acknowledged.

St. Luke's College Principal, Mrs. Deborah Salami, appreciated Urban Books Technology Inc. for extending support to a 12-year-old student from her school who suffered a tragic accident, demonstrating the benefactor's generosity.
Six winners emerged from the competition, receiving cash prizes and consolation gifts. The event also featured the inauguration of 50 pairs of tables and chairs donated to the school by Urban Books and Technology Inc. Furthermore, ten university undergraduates from IGS were awarded a N50,000 bursary each.
In attendance were notable alumni, including Professor Ogugua Charles Aworh, Prof. Siji Adeogun, Venerable Femi Oyewusi, Mrs. Risikat Awowoyin, Mr. Akinpelu Akinkunmi, and Mr. Bola Raji.
