The lifeless body of Innocent Obi, Deputy Registrar of Federal Polytechnic, Uwana, Ebonyi State, discovered in a bush near Imo State's Ezeala community, has plunged the region into dread. Returning for a relative's funeral, Obi, a retired military officer aspiring to be the Polytechnic's registrar, fell victim to armed assailants in military attire. Villagers, distressed by the recurring violence, found his decomposed remains, intensifying concerns about escalating insecurity in the area.

In a shocking and tragic incident, the decomposing corpse of Innocent Obi, the Deputy Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Uwana, Ebonyi State, was discovered in a bush near Ezeala, Umuezeala autonomous community in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

The community is currently gripped with tension following the gruesome murder of Obi, who was a native of the area. Reports indicate that the deputy registrar had returned to his village in Imo State from Ebonyi State for the funeral rites of a relative.

Commonly known as Onye Army among villagers, Obi, who had retired from the military, was reportedly seeking to become the next substantive registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Uwana.

The tragic incident unfolded when, after retiring to his family house in the village, Obi was attacked by hoodlums numbering over six. These assailants, operating in military and police uniforms, broke into his house around 10 pm.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers used machetes and axes on Obi, whose cries for help attracted villagers. However, the assailants, armed and operating on motorcycles, fired shots into the air, preventing any rescue attempt. The perpetrators successfully abducted Obi, leaving his family home stained with blood.

A search party was organized by the villagers the following day, leading to the discovery of a decomposing corpse between Ehime Mbano and Ahiazu Mbaise. The victim was identified as Obi, who had been brutally butchered beyond recognition.

Residents described Obi as a benevolent man, known for assisting youths in gaining admission to his school. The community is now in fear, especially considering the recurrence of similar killings and criminal activities in the area.

The Imo State Police Command spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that he has yet to be briefed on the incident. Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Ebonyi State, Adline Okeke, proved unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
