Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Orders Immediate Renovation of Fire-Ravaged Northwest University Campus

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed the immediate renovation of the City Campus of Northwest University Kano, which was damaged by a fire incident on Thursday, April 3, 2025. The fire gutted parts of the 9th floor of the historic Ado Bayero House, destroying 19 offices, a store, and toilet facilities belonging to the Departments of Software Engineering and Information and Communication Technology.
Accompanied by the Kano State Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engineer Marwan Ahmad, Governor Yusuf personally inspected the damage and emphasized the importance of swift action to prevent disruption to academic activities. "This university is a vital institution for our state and the education of our youth. We must not allow this setback to disrupt academic activities or lower the morale of staff and students," he stated.
The Governor's visit was preceded by an earlier visit from the Pro-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, who also assessed the damage and expressed deep sorrow over the incident. The university has constituted a technical team to assess the damage and recommend preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
Efforts are underway to provide temporary alternatives for affected offices while the reconstruction progresses, demonstrating the commitment of both the university community and the state government to ensuring continuity of academic and administrative functions.
