KASU Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry Produces First PhD Graduate
The Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry at Kaduna State University (KASU) has achieved a significant milestone with the successful defense of its first Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) thesis.
Mr. Akilu Kure, the pioneering PhD candidate, defended his thesis on August 25, 2025, and was awarded a pass with major corrections.
The Head of Department, Dr. Yahaya Yakubu, described the moment as "a great breakthrough that reflects the steady progress of our Department in advancing research and postgraduate training." He noted that the achievement demonstrates KASU's growing capacity to nurture scholars capable of contributing meaningfully to science, industry, and national development.
The supervisory team consisted of Prof. Gideon Wyasu, Prof. Calvin Nwokem, and Dr. Prof. Bako Myek, while the examination panel included Prof. Nwadozie J. Madukais from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, as the external examiner, and Prof. A. A. Nuhu from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, as the internal examiner.
This milestone places the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry among doctoral training centers and contributes to KASU's broader vision of excellence in teaching, research, and community service. The achievement is a testament to the department's commitment to advancing research and postgraduate training, and its potential to produce high-quality scholars who can make meaningful contributions to their field.
