Key Milestones in the History of ESUT
Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) was established as a multi-campus institution modeled after Harvard University, with campuses in Enugu, Abakaliki, Awka, and Nnewi. Originally focused on Engineering, Science, and Technology, it expanded in 1985 after merging with the Institute of Management and Technology

Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) was established as a non-residential, multi-campus institution, inspired by Harvard University. Initially, the university operated from its main campus in Enugu, with additional campuses in Abakaliki, Awka, and Nnewi, and initially offered programs in Engineering, Science, and Technology.
In 1985, significant reorganizations and policy shifts led to the integration with the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), resulting in the establishment of new faculties. The institutions operated under a single Interim Joint Council until December 1986 when they were demerged.
By 1987, all four campuses were fully operational, each with distinct faculties and headed by a Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Following the creation of Enugu State in 1991, the university was renamed from ASUTECH to ESUT, maintaining its previous identities.
ESUT expanded with a new campus in Adada Nkpologwu, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, for Applied Natural Sciences and Social Sciences students. The formation of Ebonyi State in 1996 led to the loss of the Abakaliki campus, which became Ebonyi State University (EBSU). In 2005, the College of Health Sciences was relocated to Parklane, Enugu.
On February 14, 2006, ESUT moved from its temporary site in Independence Layout Enugu to its permanent campus in Ebeano City, Nkanu West Local Government Area.
