Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University Kano (KHAIRUN) has organised a capacity-building workshop for its Directorate of Guidance and Counselling, focusing on strengthening outreach counselling and remedial intervention strategies.

The workshop, themed “Outreach Counselling and Remedial Intervention,” brought together experts and practitioners to enhance the skills of counsellors in addressing evolving student welfare and psychosocial needs within the university system.

Facilitation was led by two senior academics from Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Ahmad Iliyasu and Prof. Kabiru Dungurawa, both recognised authorities in guidance and counselling and certified members of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON). They delivered practical, experience-driven sessions aimed at improving counselling effectiveness and institutional intervention mechanisms.

Declaring the workshop open, the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to holistic education, stressing that student development extends beyond academics to include emotional and psychological support systems.

He noted that effective counselling structures are essential in producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also resilient and well-prepared for real-world challenges.

The workshop featured interactive sessions and practical discussions designed to improve counselling outreach and intervention capacity across the institution.

In his closing remarks, the Director of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office commended the facilitators and participants for their active engagement and dedication, describing the programme as a step forward in strengthening student support services at the university.
