In a decisive move, the Kogi State House of Assembly has issued a directive to the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Mr. Wemi Jones, ordering the expeditious remittance of the allocated N497.3 million West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination fees to the examination body's coffers by December 30, 2023. The directive was communicated by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, during a plenary sitting.

During the plenary sitting, Mr. Jones affirmed that the allocated funds, currently intact in the ministry's account, would not be disbursed to any principal or school directly. Instead, the funds are slated to be remitted to WAEC before January 28, 2024. The commissioner warned against any illicit practices, emphasizing that education is free in Kogi State. Principals, school heads, and examination officers are explicitly prohibited from collecting money from students for WAEC or Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) levy.
