The Kwara State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with the murder of Awesu Mojisola, a 21-year-old student at the Kwara State College of Health Technology. Her lifeless body was discovered at a dump site in the Aleniboro area of Ilorin on August 11, 2024.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Tuesday in Ilorin. The statement detailed that a missing person report was filed on August 13, 2024, by Miss Blessing O., a resident of Offa, Kwara State. Miss Blessing reported that her roommate, Miss Awesu Mojisola, had been missing since August 9, 2024.

According to the report, Miss Mojisola had received a phone call on August 9 from a fellow student, Miss Timileyin, who introduced her to Mr. Adebayo Happiness, a student of Summit University. Mr. Adebayo allegedly invited Miss Mojisola to a night party in Ilorin, under the pretense of hiring her to act as his girlfriend for a fee of fifteen thousand naira (#15,000.00). However, upon arriving at the location, Miss Mojisola informed her roommate that she felt uneasy and noted that there was no party at the hotel where she was lodged. Shortly after, her phone was switched off, and all efforts to contact her failed.

On August 12, 2024, a resident of the Aleniboro area, Mr. Olorunoje, reported finding the body of an unidentified young woman at a refuse dump. The police were immediately alerted, and the scene was examined. The body, later identified as Miss Awesu Mojisola, was taken to the General Hospital in Ilorin, where her death was confirmed.

The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has assured the public that the police are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice for the deceased.
