Kwarapoly Appeals for Funding to Optimize Performance
The rector emphasized the need for prudent resource management but stressed that additional funding is essential for accreditation of programs and the rehabilitation of aging infrastructure.
Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin (Kwarapoly), has made a plea to the state government for increased funding to enhance its operational efficiency. During a press briefing in Ilorin as part of the 29th convocation ceremony activities, the Rector, Engineer Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, highlighted the institution's modest achievements amidst economic challenges and rising operational costs. The rector emphasized the need for prudent resource management but stressed that additional funding is essential for accreditation of programs and the rehabilitation of aging infrastructure.
According to Engineer Mohammed, substantial financial resources, amounting to millions of Naira, are required for accreditation exercises of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programs. He urged the state government to intervene during accreditation processes to meet the stringent requirements set by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Additionally, the rector expressed concerns about the deteriorating state of many old buildings on the campus, citing the financial constraints that hinder comprehensive renovation and rehabilitation efforts.
While appreciating the support of the state commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Ronke Arinde, the rector appealed for assistance from Governor Abdulrazaq to address the security threat posed by the encroachment on the institution's land. The plea aims to prevent unforeseen situations that could jeopardize the lives of students and the property of the polytechnic.
