Lagos State University of Education Honours Outgoing Governing Councils of Legacy Colleges

The management of LASUED held a Valedictory Service on Thursday, September 5, 2024, to celebrate the achievements of the outgoing Governing Councils of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED).

Lagos State University of Education Honours Outgoing Governing Councils of Legacy Colleges

The management of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) held a Valedictory Service on Thursday, September 5, 2024, to celebrate the achievements of the outgoing Governing Councils of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED). The ceremony, which took place at the Providence Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, was organized to honour the contributions of the 12th and 7th Governing Councils of AOCOED and MOCPED, respectively, as they concluded their terms.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Sule Tolani Akibu, praised the outgoing councils for their dedication to the advancement of the legacy colleges. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to fostering a conducive academic environment and supporting the welfare of staff and students across all Lagos State-owned tertiary institutions.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also commended LASUED for recognizing the efforts of the councils with a celebratory send-forth, noting that such recognition was more valuable than monetary rewards. He further urged the staff of LASUED to support the Vice Chancellor and her team as the institution prepares for its upcoming accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Vice Chancellor of LASUED, Prof. Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, praised the outgoing councils for their remarkable contributions to the growth of both AOCOED and MOCPED, now unified under LASUED. She noted that their hard work and dedication were instrumental in the transformation of the colleges into a university.

In their farewell speeches, the outgoing Chairmen of the Governing Councils, Prof. Nurudeen Olasupo (AOCOED) and Alhaja Sekinat Yusuf (MOCPED), expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for the opportunity to serve. They highlighted key accomplishments during their tenure, including improvements in security, infrastructure, staff and student welfare, training programs, and community relations.

The event concluded with a celebration of the councils' achievements, marking the end of an era for the legacy colleges and their successful transition into Lagos State University of Education.
