Lagos State University Staff Unions Embark on Indefinite Strike
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Lagos State University Staff Unions, comprising the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), has commenced an indefinite strike action effective July 31, 2025.
The strike is in response to unmet demands, including salary disparities between LASU and other state-owned universities, implementation of the federal government-approved salary increment of 25% and 35% for staff members, and payment of a 20% salary increase promised by the governor during his election campaign.
All members of staff at Lagos State University and its affiliate campuses, LASUCOM and LASU Epe Campus, have been directed to withdraw their services and vacate their official duty posts with immediate effect. The strike will remain in force indefinitely until the demands of the staff members are met by the appropriate authorities.
This development is similar to a previous strike action that occurred in December 2024, which was suspended after the unions reached an agreement with the Lagos State Government to address some of their demands.
