LASU Centre for Museums and African Heritage Gears Up for 2024 International Museum Day Celebration
Lagos State University Centre for Museums and African Heritage (LASUCEMAH) will celebrate the 2024 International Museum Day on May 18th, highlighting the theme "Museums for Education and Research."
The Lagos State University Centre for Museums and African Heritage (LASUCEMAH) is set to join the global celebration of the 2024 International Museum Day (IMD) on May 18th. The event highlights the essential role of museums in cultural exchange, enrichment, and fostering mutual understanding and peace.
Celebrated annually since its inception 40 years ago, IMD events span from a single day to an entire week, with last year's participation including over 37,000 museums in 158 countries. This year’s theme, “Museums for Education and Research,” emphasizes the significance of museums in providing comprehensive educational experiences and promoting a conscious, sustainable, and inclusive world.

The Chief Host, Vice-Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, will grace the event, which will be held at the LASU Museum on Oba Ogunji Road, Pen Cinema, Agege. Notable speakers include Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, and Associate Professor Sanni Habeeb Abiodun, Acting Director of the Directorate of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship at Lagos State University.
Additionally, Mr. Gbaja Kolawole Patrick, Museum Curator/Deputy Director of LASUCEMAH, and host Prof. Animashaun Maruf, Director of LASUCEMAH, will present various papers. The celebration aims to underscore the importance of museums in education and research, reflecting their role in building a more informed and harmonious society.
