The Lagos State University (LASU)  shuns FG’s closure order, and fixes exams in between elections, According to the University Senate press release made available to myschoolnews, the ongoing examination should continue up to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, 23rd February 2023.

The Lagos State University (LASU) management has been accused of denying students and staff their fundamental human rights to vote in the forthcoming Nigerian General Election.

According to a release published on the institution’s official website, the Second Semester Examinations will commence from Monday 13th – Thursday 23rd February 2023 while the General elections will be held in Nigeria on 25 February 2023 to elect the President and Vice President and members of the Senate and House of Representatives, myschoolnews learnt.

LASU senate also quoted that;

 in view of (i) above, and the concerns expressed on the security of staff, students and properties of the institution, the Honorable Minister of Education Mal. Adamu Adamu has directed all Universities and Inter University Centres be shut down and academic activities be suspended between 22nd February and 14th March 2023.  

Decision of senate on the ministerial directive on the closure of all universities and inter university centres during the upcoming 2023 general election

Senate at its Emergency Meeting held on Monday, 13th February 2023 considered a paper presented by the Vice Chancellor and Chairman, Senate. The paper was on consideration of the Ministerial directive on the closure of all Universities and Inter University Centres during the upcoming 2023 General Election.

Senate, during consideration of the paper, NOTED that:

i. the 2023 general election have been scheduled for Saturday, 25th February 2023 for Presidential and National Assembly; and Saturday, 11th March 2023 for Gubernatorial and State Assembly, respectively; and

ii. in view of (i) above, and the concerns expressed on the security of staff, students and properties of the institution, the Honorable Minister of Education Mal. Adamu Adamu has directed all Universities and Inter University Centres be shut down and academic activities be suspended between 22nd February and 14th March 2023.

Senate after due consideration, APPROVED the following:

i. The ongoing examination should continue up to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, 23rd February 2023;

ii. Students should vacate the campus immediately and resume to continue their examinations by 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 28th February 2023;

iii. Students should vacate the campus by 6:00 p. m. on Thursday 9th, March 2023 to resume to continue their examination by 8:00 a. m. on  Tuesday, 14th March 2023; and

iv. Staff members are to be on the ground to carry out their duties.
