ATBU SUG Prohibits Electric Cookers, Hot Plates in University Hostels

The Hall Executive Council (HEC) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has drawn the attention of students to the use of electric cookers and hot plates by some students residing in the university hostels.

The directive follows a recent instruction issued by the Students’ Affairs Division prohibiting the use of electric cookers and hot plates in the university hostels.

All students have therefore been reminded that the use of electric cookers and hot plates in the hostels is strictly prohibited. Students are advised to desist from using or keeping such appliances in their hostel rooms.

Students are further reminded that the Student Handbook, Chapter 9, Regulations Governing Hostel Accommodation, provides sanctions for hostel-related offences. Specifically:

• Use of unauthorized electrical appliances that may cause damage to electrical facilities attracts repair/replacement of the facility or rustication for two (2) semesters.

• Use of electric hot plates attracts seizure of the appliance and rustication for one (1) semester.

Students have been strongly advised to take the directive seriously and avoid any action that could expose themselves or other residents to disciplinary sanctions or electrical hazards.

Hall Executives have also been directed to monitor compliance within their respective hostels.

Any student found using the prohibited appliances will be reported to the appropriate university authorities for necessary action in accordance with the applicable regulations.
