LASU Retains Top West African Spot, Makes Global Leap in UI GreenMetric Ranking

Lagos State University has once again retained its position as the Overall Best University in West Africa in the newly released UI GreenMetric World University Ranking for Sustainability. 

The 2025 results, formally announced by the global ranking body on Thursday, 4th December 2025, placed LASU as the best, not only in Nigeria but in the West Africa region for the fourth consecutive time (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025).

In the latest ranking cycle, LASU also made an impressive leap in the global standings, moving up 39 places from 799th in 2024 to 760th among 1,745 institutions across 105 countries. This consistent upward progression, maintained since LASU joined the global ranking platform in September 2022, highlights the University’s deepening commitment to sustainability-driven innovation and institutional responsibility.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, received the notification of the milestone with great pride. She extended heartfelt congratulations to the entire university community, whose collective efforts made the achievement possible. She also acknowledged the invaluable support of the Lagos State Government, whose investments and encouragement continue to propel LASU towards global excellence in sustainability initiatives.

Of note, the Vice-Chancellor also expressed gratitude to members of the university community who were directly involved in the success story, including the members of the Special Ranking Committee, led by Professor Adenike Boyo; the Directorate of Research Management and Innovation, led by Professor Adejuwon Adeneye; the Centre for the Actualisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), under the leadership of Professor Tayo Ajayi, as well as Acting Director of the Centre for Planning Studies, Dr Fatai Ogundele.
