The innovative system, developed by Samuel Olomu, Olawuyi Gideon, and Makanjuola Dogban, addresses the inefficiencies plaguing traditional waste management practices in Lagos. Smart Trash features IoT-enabled Smart Bins equipped with ultrasonic sensors to monitor fill levels in real-time. This capability optimizes waste collection routes, reduces overflow issues, and enhances overall operational efficiency.

"Current waste management in Lagos suffers from numerous challenges, including overflowing bins and missed collections," explained Samuel Olomu, co-founder of Smart Trash. "Our solution integrates cutting-edge technologies to tackle these issues head-on, aligning with global sustainability goals like SDG 9 for Sustainable Cities."

Olawuyi Gideon highlighted the system's data analytics component, which provides insights into waste generation patterns and recycling rates. This data empowers decision-makers to make informed policy decisions that improve service quality and reduce operational costs.
