 Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), has revealed that LASU has been ranked as the third most subscribed university in Nigeria. This announcement comes alongside the revelation of Dr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), former Governor of Lagos State and immediate past Minister for Works and Housing, as the convocation lecturer for the institution's 27th convocation ceremony.

The convocation lecture, scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, 2024, will be themed ‘Embracing the Future: Navigating the Intersection of Technology and Humanity”. Emeritus Prof Peter Okebukola, OFR, will chair the lecture.

Professor Olatunji-Bello outlined LASU's achievements in Information Computer Technology (ICT), highlighting the graduation of 8,477 students in their first-degree programs. Of these, 153 achieved First Class honours, 3,029 attained Second Class Upper Division, 4,350 earned Second Class Lower Division, 715 graduated with Third Class, and 228 graduated with a Pass. The honours will be conferred on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Speaking further, Professor Olatunji-Bello stated, “We have elevated the status of the university to the third most subscribed university in Nigeria while sustaining our rankings for the second time running as the best university in West Africa according to the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking. In addition, we maintained our status as the best State University and the 9th Overall Best University in Nigeria according to the highly credible AD Index Ranking. Stutern also ranked LASU the 5th best university in Nigeria on graduate employability.”

The Vice Chancellor also highlighted LASU's recognition at the Nigeria Information Technology Awards, where the university won three awards for Excellence in Digital Transformation and Best Use of Technology in both Students’ and E-Records categories, establishing itself as the most digitally advanced State University in Nigeria.

Furthermore, LASU has digitalized its postgraduate school processes, significantly reducing the turnaround time for transcript issuance. Additionally, the university has developed a Smart Identification Card for staff and students, usable in all ATMs and POS in Nigeria, and the LASU Staff Corner App, an Android application containing all university laws and statutes.
