Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) has made significant strides in enhancing operational efficiency through the implementation of automated auditing tools, according to the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye. Speaking during the university’s maiden Annual Summit of the Directorate of Internal Audit on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the positive impact of these tools on the university’s reliability and strategic financial management.
The summit, themed “Internal and Forensic Audit: A Tool for Operational Efficiency in University Administration” and held at the TETFUND Hall on the Oto/Ijanikin main campus, gathered distinguished dignitaries including politicians, royal fathers, and professionals. Discussions centered on improving operational efficiency and addressing cybersecurity threats in university administration.
In her remarks, Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye emphasized the pivotal role of internal and forensic audits in fostering accountability, transparency, and effective governance. “In the university context, internal audits provide independent assurance on risk management and governance, safeguarding institutional resources and enhancing the educational experience for students,” she stated. She further stressed the importance of adopting best practices in financial management for long-term sustainability.
Keynote speakers, including Prof. Godwin Oyedokun and Prof. Moses Akanbi, delivered thought-provoking presentations on the significance of internal audit efficiency and investments in cybersecurity to counter modern threats.
Dignitaries at the event included representatives from the Lagos State government and traditional rulers such as HRH Oba Aina Josiah Ilemobade Olanrewaju, the Oloto of Oto-Awori Kingdom, and HRH Sulaiman Adeshina Raji Ashade I, Oniba Ekun of Iba Land. The summit was hailed as a milestone in advancing operational excellence and financial accountability at LASUED.
