LASUED VC Engages NANS Leadership on Student Welfare, SUG Reestablishment

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, welcomed the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) delegation led by its President, Comrade Olushola Ladoja, on Monday, 6th October 2025, at the Multimedia Complex of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, welcomed the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) delegation led by its President, Comrade Olushola Ladoja, on Monday, 6th October 2025, at the Multimedia Complex of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

Discussions focused on student welfare and the reestablishment of the Student Union Government (SUG) at LASUED. Comrade Ladoja expressed confidence in Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye’s student-centered leadership, emphasizing her track record in advocating for student development.

Responding, Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye commended the NANS leadership for the purposeful engagement and reaffirmed the university management’s commitment to constructive dialogue. She highlighted LASUED’s growth from fewer than 2,000 students during its College of Education era to nearly 20,000 students today, attributing the expansion to strategic reforms by the Lagos State Government. She also cited the university’s achievements, including co-hosting the African University Games, pre-NUGA Games, and LASUED students’ successes in various competitions.

On the SUG matter, the Vice-Chancellor assured that the process had only been temporarily paused and promised the forthcoming establishment of a functional student union. She emphasized her commitment to fairness in student affairs, drawing on her experience as a former Dean of Student Affairs at LASU.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Abdulrahim Quadri, Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC), who appreciated the Vice-Chancellor’s dedication to student representation and inclusion.

Other attendees included: Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Daodu Morufu Adedayo; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Morufudeen Adeniyi Shittu; Registrar, Mr. Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa; Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Dawodu Rasheed Adegbenro; and members of the NANS entourage.
