No fewer than 114 newly-inducted Graduands of the Department of Radiography and Radiological Sciences, University of Calabar(Unical), have been charged to lift the name of their Alma Mater high and desist from acts that may dent her image.

No fewer than 114 newly-inducted Graduands of the Department of Radiography and Radiological Sciences, University of Calabar(Unical), have been charged to lift the name of their Alma Mater high and desist from acts that may dent her image, Myschoolnews report.

The Vice Chancellor of Unical, Prof. Florence Obi gave the charge at the institution's International Conference Centre during the 16th Induction and Oath Taking Ceremony of Radiography Graduands.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita, the Vice Chancellor congratulated the Graduands for the great feat and urged them to defend the name of the institution through their conduct.

 

Prof. Obi also charged the graduands to uphold the highest standard of professionalism and patient care throughout their careers.

Her words, " Practice within the limit of your profession. Hold our banner high and don't dent our image"

The Vice-Chancellor said the institution will continue to provide an enabling environment for teaching and learning, even as she assured that the institution will look at the challenges in the Department of Radiography to address them.

The Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, Prof. Ngim Ngim, in his remarks, described the induction as a day of celebration, not just for the graduands but for their parents and teachers who took them through the journey by dint of hard work, commitment and dedication.

Prof. Ngim charged the inductees to be guided by the code of ethics, principles and practice of their profession as they step out into the world.

He urged them to work in harmony and cooperation with other members of the team to ensure the delivery of healthcare and research of the highest standard.

 

The Provost also implored them to remember their Alma Mater, ensure that their conduct promotes its reputation and make an effort to contribute to her continued growth and development.

This is even as he congratulated the inductees' parents and sponsors for their steadfast support despite the frequent disruptions in the school Calendar which caused an extension of the period of their training.

Dean of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, Prof. Regina  Ejemot-Nwadiaro, in a goodwill message, felicitated the graduands for their great achievement.

She said achieving this milestone is no mean feat, considering the long unpredictable journey and numerous years of intensive lecture and hospital-based practical experiences, long nights of toiling, which she said, has culminated into a joyous ending with a  successful induction.

The Dean reminded them that it will require hard work, dedication, perseverance, commitment and above all, the fear of God to be able to navigate life's challenges and the current realities to give their utmost services to humanity.

Speaking shortly after administering oath on the graduands, the Registrar/ Chief Executive Officer, Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria( RRBN), Prof. Mark Okeji congratulated the new graduands for their enthusiasm, diligence and hard work which saw them through the programme.

The Registrar said the Radiography Profession is dynamic and the practice is constantly changing hence the need for the inductees to acquire as much knowledge and skills as possible, commencing from the period of their internship through the initial years of their practice.

While urging them to be steadfast to the oath they have taken, Prof. Okeji tasked the graduands to remain hardworking, focused and assiduous, adding that, " the future is bright for you and success will surely come with strong commitment and abiding faith in God".

Prof. Okeji who identified specialization and acquisition of higher degrees as essential for the demands of the Radiography Profession charged them to be prepared and plan for further studies and training in specialized areas.

He called on the inductees to give their best and build a reputation alongside a good name, even as he enjoined them not to take chances when it comes to life.

The RRBN Registrar also advised them to respect their senior colleagues as enshrined in the code of practice, saying anything to the contrary will attract disciplinary action from the Board.

The Induction lecturer, Dr  Samson Paulinus Omini who spoke on the topic; " Professionalism, Financial Reward and the Internship Challenge: A Radiographer's Scale of Preference", urged the graduands to protect the integrity of their profession by being accountable for their actions.

 

Dr  Samson who is also the Head of the Department of Radiography, UNICAL, described the graduates as ' custodians of patient care', and called on them to embrace professionalism with unwavering commitment and not compromise on standards.

He also urged them to adjust to the fast-paced clinical environment, as well as, balance career aspirations with ethical responsibilities.
