MAAUN Launches Career Guidance Unit to Enhance Student Success
The announcement was made by the President of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, during the Orientation exercise for the 2024/2025 freshmen, held on Saturday at the Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Theatre.
Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has established a Career Guidance, Training, and Placement (CGTP) unit aimed at preparing students for successful careers. The announcement was made by the President of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, during the Orientation exercise for the 2024/2025 freshmen, held on Saturday at the Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Theatre.
Prof. Gwarzo explained that the CGTP unit would focus on forging strategic partnerships with employers, offering skills training programs, and providing career counseling to help students transition from academia to professional careers. The unit will collaborate closely with faculty members, alumni, and industry partners to align educational programs with market demands.
In his speech, Prof. Gwarzo emphasized the importance of academic integrity and warned new students against drug abuse, stating that the university maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy on such behavior. He urged students to maintain good moral character and avoid distractions that could affect their academic focus.
The orientation program included several informative presentations aimed at familiarizing the new students with university policies and services. Among the speakers were Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, who discussed the American education system and student conduct on campus, and Dr. Nura A. Yaro, who outlined MAAUN’s academic activities. Dr. Muhammad Lawal Tahir provided information on the university’s health services, while security tips were shared by Abdullahi Garba Waya, Chief Security Officer.
The event also featured a short documentary by the MAAUN Media Crew, which highlighted the inspiring journey of Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, the university’s founder. This was followed by a session on environmental sanitation by Dr. Abubakar Lawal Kankia and career guidance by Engr. Bashir Garba, Head of the CGTP unit.
The comprehensive orientation aimed to equip the new students with the tools and knowledge necessary for academic and professional success.
