Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria Participates in MILID-UNESCO Workshop on Media Literacy

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) recently participated in a two-day workshop organized by the Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue Foundation (MILID Foundation) in collaboration with UNESCO.

 

The event, held from October 22-24, aimed to promote media literacy and foster critical engagement with information as part of the 2024 Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week.

MAAUN, one of only two institutions in Kano invited to participate, was represented by students from various departments and Professor Muktar Said, Dean of the School of Social and Management Sciences.

 

Dr. Gumbi emphasized the importance of ethical journalism, accurate reporting, and media literacy in promoting intercultural dialogue and mitigating conflict.

The workshop brought together students, educators, and policymakers to explore the role of media in shaping peaceful societies and combating misinformation.
