McPherson University has announced a series of major infrastructure and academic expansion initiatives aimed at strengthening its capacity as a growing centre of higher education in Nigeria. At the centre of the development is the approval of a ₦1.2 billion project for the construction of a new College of Law building.

McPherson University has announced a series of major infrastructure and academic expansion initiatives aimed at strengthening its capacity as a growing centre of higher education in Nigeria. At the centre of the development is the approval of a ₦1.2 billion project for the construction of a new College of Law building.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, disclosed the plans during an interaction with 100-level students of the Department of Mass Communication, Miss Okunaenyife Marycynthia and Miss Chibuoke Blessing, who conducted the session as part of their practical training exercise.

Professor Igbasan explained that the new College of Law facility is designed to significantly improve teaching and learning conditions for law students, aligning with the university’s broader objective of delivering quality professional education in a modern academic environment.

He further revealed that the institution is currently executing three major infrastructure projects using a combination of Build-Operate-and-Transfer (BOT) arrangements and internally generated revenue. According to him, the university is deliberately adopting diversified funding strategies to sustain development without compromising academic standards.

Beyond the Law College project, the Vice-Chancellor announced plans to establish a College of Engineering before the end of his tenure. He described the initiative as a strategic expansion designed to meet rising demand for engineering education and to position the university more competitively within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.

He also disclosed ongoing preparations for the construction of a modern, fully equipped library, which is expected to enhance research capacity, academic performance, and knowledge access across all disciplines.

Professor Igbasan emphasized that all projects are being implemented within available financial realities while maintaining strict adherence to quality and institutional priorities. He reiterated that the administration remains focused on building a sustainable academic ecosystem driven by innovation, excellence, and long-term growth.

On student welfare and safety, he highlighted the university’s Work-Study Programme, which provides financial support to academically strong and disciplined students. He also reaffirmed the institution’s security architecture, noting collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, the So-Safe Corps, military personnel, local vigilante groups, hunters, and internal security teams to ensure a safe learning environment.

The Vice-Chancellor concluded that the ongoing reforms reflect McPherson University’s commitment to structured growth, academic expansion, and the delivery of globally competitive education.
