MDCN Inducts 74 Bingham University Medical Graduates; Leaders Urge Compassion and Integrity
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) inducted 74 new medical doctors of the Bingham University, College of Medical Sciences. The 15th induction ceremony was held recently with the MDCN Registrar, Prof. Fatima Kyari, ECWA Executive, Speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon.Daniel Nanlong and other Dignitaries, parents, guardians, and well-wishers in attendance.
Prof. Ayuba in his opening remarks reaffirmed the university’s commitment to clinical training through the Bingham University, College of Medical Sciences and the Bingham University Teaching Hospital(BHUTH).
He added that the medical programme scored 93% in the 2024 NUC accreditation and was granted Full Accreditation Status. NUC has also approved a joint postgraduate degree with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine under the Transnational Education programme adding that Bingham University is the first Nigerian university to secure this approval.

The Vice Chancellor appealed to MDCN for re-accreditation and increased admission quota to address the growing need for healthcare professionals in Nigeria.
In his charge to inductees, Prof. Ayuba said current generation brings real strength to medicine through comfort with technology and AI, understanding of mental health, and commitment to patient-centred care. He warned that social media is not the same as professional reputation, and stressed resilience amid Nigeria’s health sector realities. He urged them to embrace lifelong learning, intellectual and cultural humility, and protect integrity by prioritizing patient wellbeing over financial gain.
ECWA President and Chairman, Bingham University, Board of Trustees, Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat Mallam, represented by the ECWA Vice President, Dr. Chidi Joseph Madubuko, described the induction as the acceptance of a sacred trust to preserve life, alleviate suffering, and serve humanity with compassion and integrity. Drawing from ECWA’s 2026 theme, “Keep your lamps Burning,”.
He urged them to guard society’s trust jealously, let honesty guide decisions, and remember that every patient entrusted bears the image of God and deserves dignity, respect, and quality treatment. He prayed God’s wisdom in decisions, strength in service, compassion in practice, and success in their careers.
Provost, College of Medical Sciences, Prof. Haroun Omeiza Isah in his welcome address described the ceremony as the triumphant culmination of years of rigorous medical training characterized by countless sleepless nights, clinical rotations, and unwavering perseverance.
He said the College marks 20 years in 2026, growing from its pioneer induction of 19 graduates in 2014 into one of the ten most sought-after private medical schools in Nigeria. With uninterrupted academic sessions, it now averages 76 graduates annually.
Prof. Isah noted the College ranks among the top 10-15 private medical schools in Nigeria, top 50 overall in Nigeria, and 199th in Africa based on research output, reputation, and alumni impact.He said the College will continue to focus on a clinical skills laboratory, enhanced digital infrastructure, e-learning platform, and 3D interactive media for remote lectures and simulations.
He thanked benefactors including The Jonah Inheritance, ECWA Portfolio, APIN, ECWA Women Fellowship, NMA Plateau, Emeritus Prof. Alhassan Mela Yakubu, Prof. Musa Dankyau, Prof. Lucy Idoko, and the Alumni. Bingham University Teaching Hospital, led by Dr. James Agada and Prof. Stephen Anzaku were commended for clinical training support.
Prof. Isah urged the new doctors to be guided by empathy, integrity, and a desire to alleviate suffering.
Administering the Hippocratic Oath on behalf of Professor Fatima Kyari to the new doctors, Professor Jeremiah Aboi Madaki, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, University of Jos, congratulated and charged new doctors to adhere to ethical and professional practice in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Speaking on behalf of the 2019/2020 set, Dr. Maryam Agom, described the six years of training as ‘’walls of sadness, temporary failures, setbacks, sleepless nights, broken confidence, deferred dreams, and tears we cried in places nobody saw, she said’’.
Dr. Agom thanked lecturers for “tough love” and taught for excellence. ‘’You made us uncomfortable on purpose, because comfort never made a good doctor. You gave us more than a degree. You gave us a conscience,” she told faculty.
With this induction, Bingham University reinforces its position as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions for medical training, producing doctors equipped to blend innovation, integrity, and compassion.
The highlights of the ceremony, were the Hippocratic Oath administration, awards of prizes to distinguished graduands and photo sessions.
