MDCN Visits UNIDEL, Commends Vice Chancellor for Rapid Growth
The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) recently paid a routine advisory visit to the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, as part of its efforts to assess the institution's compliance with accreditation standards for medical and dental programs.

The delegation, led by Dr. N. U. Nwakama, Deputy Director and Head of Medical Education at MDCN, was notably impressed by the rapid development witnessed at the young institution.
Dr. Nwakama praised UNIDEL's significant strides in infrastructure and academic growth, noting that the visit was intended to provide critical and objective assessments, as well as useful recommendations to strengthen the institution’s compliance with MDCN standards. He further emphasized that MDCN’s primary responsibility is to ensure medical and dental programs in Nigeria adhere to the council’s accreditation standards to maintain high educational quality.
He also highlighted that the council's swift approval of this visit was a testament to the outstanding leadership of UNIDEL's management. Dr. Nwakama expressed optimism about future collaborations, stating that MDCN remains committed to fostering a cordial relationship with UNIDEL to encourage continued partnership and progress.
In response, the Vice Chancellor of UNIDEL, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, expressed her gratitude to Dr. Nwakama and his team for their support in advancing medical and dental education in Nigeria. Prof. Chiemeke reaffirmed UNIDEL’s commitment to adhering to MDCN’s standards and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. She also appreciated the unwavering support of the Delta State Government in promoting education and making UNIDEL a global point of reference in academic excellence.
The MDCN delegation was warmly received by top management officials at UNIDEL, including Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Patricia Mbah, Registrar Barrister Richmond Omagbemi, Bursar Mr. Sunny Ikeogwu, and Librarian Dr. Vera Okonoko. Also in attendance were deans from various faculties, including Prof. Obiazi Adagbonyin (Faculty of Engineering), Prof. Alexander Naiho (Faculty of Medicine), and Prof. John Igweh (Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences), among others.
The visiting MDCN team included Dr. N. U. Nwakama, Mr. D. D. Tyovenda, Mr. David Isioma Omoregie, Prof. Nuhu Adeh, and Dr. Atoe Kenneth, alongside other distinguished members such as Prof. Grace Essiet, Prof. Jude Egwurugwu, Prof. Emmanuel Okoro, Prof. Chidi Oranusi, and Prof. Ngozi Ugwu.
The visit marks a milestone in the strengthening of UNIDEL’s medical and dental programs and further cements its growing reputation as a center of academic excellence in Nigeria.
