Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria Commends FUOTUOKE on Establishment of the Faculty Of Medical Science

Speaking on behalf of the team on arrival in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Teddy Charles Adias, the Team Lead and Registrar of the Council, Associate Professor Tosan Erhabor congratulated the VC on establishing the Faculty, reminding him of his promise years back to establish the Faculty when they met on a courtesy call to his office. He thanked the Vice Chancellor, who is a member of the Council and a Professor in Immuno-Haematology and Blood Transfusion Science profusely for the hospitality accorded them since arrival.
The Registrar sued for cooperation from the Institution stating that “we pride ourselves as being an organization that believes in quality, safety and sustainability”. He emphasized that they were in the University “not to bring down structures”, but to assist in ” getting it formidable so that in the next 100 years, this Faculty would remain Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science with your name written as the VC that started the first Faculty of Medical Laboratory from initiation. I put that on record as the Registrar of the Council”.
In their report on their exit visit, the Registrar gushed about the newly established Faculty building saying,” the edifice put in place, should be put on record as the first of its kind for Medical Laboratory Practitioners or Training Institutions, this is the best in the country we have seen”, he concluded. He advised that maintenance culture should be inculcated so the edifice does not decay when the VC eventually leaves office.
The Associate Professor and Team lead also went on to highlight their findings which include the fact that there were spacious classrooms, proper laboratory layout, good burb benches and laboratory equipment. He thanked the VC for the Teaching Laboratory Complex saying “It shows the taste and quality of what you wanted”, commending him on the Genomics building as being the first of its kind in the Faculty in Nigeria. He however pointed out the absence of modern teaching aids, and advised the furniture to be upgraded. Proper air conditioning to be installed, more equipment, more furnishing especially the Deans office, the store and the provision of Professorial offices . He advised that all laboratory equipment be properly engraved.

The Registrar of the Council also suggested that a 100 KVA generator be bought and assigned to the Faculty instead of the present gigantic one shared with Faculty of Engineering for the smooth running of the laboratory and offices. He commended the use of inverter, but suggested solar power for sustainability even on campus.
Thanking him on his findings and report, the obviously very elated Vice Chancellor Professor Teddy Charles Adias acknowledged all that was highlighted in the report saying “ ours is a work in progress .We’ve noticed what you’ve seen, just that we didn’t want to camouflage anything”. He noted that Professorial offices were being built in the Faculty of Science up to about 30 rooms. On the purchase of more equipment, he promised to get more medical laboratory equipment as funding comes into the University hopefully through interventions. He approved of a separate generator for the new Faculty and smart interactive classrooms for better output and delivery.
Other members of the council team include Professor Paul C. Inyang –Etok, Member, Mr. Victor Essien, Secretary/Member, and Mr. Daniel Ameh , also a member of the council.
