Meet Distinguished Academician, Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu

A renowned scholar from Kano, Nigeria, Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu, has achieved a remarkable milestone in academia. He is one of the few Nigerians to have become a professor in two distinct fields, a testament to his dedication and expertise.

Professor Adamu's journey to dual professorship began in 1997 when he was promoted to Professor of Science Education at Bayero University, Kano. Fifteen years later, in 2012, he was promoted to Professor of Media and Cultural Communication at the same institution.

Beyond his academic achievements, Professor Adamu is celebrated for his pioneering work on Hausa language, history, culture, films, and the impact of social media. His innovative work in the 1990s on digital encoding of Hausa special characters has had a lasting impact on Hausa language computing.

As Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria from 2016 to 2021, Professor Adamu introduced far-reaching reforms in distance learning, expanding access to education and promoting digital literacy.
