Modibbo Adama University Launches Inaugural Inter-Hall Basketball Vice-Chancellor’s Cup to Foster Unity and Discover Talent

In a groundbreaking move to enhance peace, unity, and student welfare on campus, Modibbo Adama University, Yola, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Umar, has launched the maiden edition of the Vice-Chancellor’s Cup; an inter-hall basketball tournament.

The tournament officially kicked off on Wednesday, 16th July 2025, with a vibrant opening ceremony attended by a large crowd of students, staff, and university officials.

In his welcome address, Prof. Ja’afaru Ali, Chairman of the University Sports Committee, acknowledged the dignitaries in attendance and highlighted the vital role of sports in uniting communities and fostering progress within the university.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, the University Registrar, Alhaji Mustafa Migawa, formally declared the tournament open. He announced that the inter-hall basketball competition would become an annual tradition, dedicated to talent discovery and strengthening campus unity.

Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Dean of Student Affairs, the Deputy Dean, Dr. Maryam Yahya Adamu, appreciated the support of the university leadership, organizers, and participants. She emphasized the importance of sports in promoting student engagement, healthy living, and personal growth.

A thrilling exhibition match by the university’s female basketball team (Nana Asma'u Hall and Chikun Hall), added excitement to the event, setting the stage for a spirited competition among various hostels.
